Week 9 - Written Communication

100 Word Idea Statement  (Min 100 words, max 120 words)  The statement   will introduce the title of your project, the intent of your communication approach and then explain how you accomplished your objectives using an example of one of your projects. Alterations such as expanding, reshaping and implementing additional ventilation, can influence how a space is utilised and significantly improve the wellbeing of individual...

Idea Generation

Bedroom 'Space & Ventilation' Idea Generation Sketches #1 #2   #3 #4 #5 Overall Evaluation: By rough sketching a few different ideas and playing with form, I discovered i liked the idea of having a two level room as one area can be dedicated to sleeping getting dressed etc, whereas the other can be used for as a space open to interpretation i.e. for studying, relaxing, a space to work out. Models Evaluation: Due to a limitation of materials and having only a very brief idea of where i wanted my idea to go, i made a brief model to just give me a relative idea of space, scale and what materials would best suit my idea and what i was comfortable working with.

Week 8 - Communicating Materiality

Fusion 360: 3D Shapes Initials A.R.T Evaluation: When choosing the materials for my initial 3D model, i played around with a lot of the shinier textures as i thought it 'popped' more and was more appealing to the eye. Originally i had put copper polished as the exterior, a light blue tint glass for the interior of the shell and had the environment/highlight as warm light. However, after testing a few different materials, i found 'palladium polished' and thought it brought out a more metallic appearance which i thought would contrast really well with gold, hence choosing to change the interior of the shell to gold. I also changed the environment to be the plaza so it was more reflective. It also added an interesting blue-ish tint to the model and a cool picture reflection inside where the gold is.

Week 7 - Light and Scale

Image
Iterative Model  Scale - 1:100 Evaluation: With this weeks model, I had iterated the design by expanding open the space, adding a large translucent window and a translucent window strip so more light could enter the room. I also had modified the base shape of the model to be more square, but still retain a similar triangular-like form. Fusion 360: 2.5D Model Evaluation: This model comprises of three different rectangular prisms, on 2 different levels. I had quite a lot of difficulty with Fusion as I had joins and cuts that didn't line up perfectly, as well as had some trouble when adding the third rectangular prism to the shape. Fusion Paper Model  Evaluation: I personally disliked this task as I don't often model with paper. I had also scaled the model incorrectly and the bottom rectangular prism couldn't exactly withhold the weight of the other two shapes. I also struggled with the tabs and glueing sometimes joins w...

Week 5 - Model Making

Image
Model Making Activities 1:100 Room Model Paper Folding Techniques Masu Box Evaluation : I personally really enjoyed making this shape. The demonstration was relatively easy to understand and the shape looks quite complex although it was simple to construct. V-Pleats Evaluation: At first glance and given how simple the folds were for this model - I wasn't expecting the end result to turn out this aesthetic. I also enjoyed learning what a 'mountain' and 'valley' fold were. X-Form Spans Evaluation: This shape was a lot of fun to play and experiment with. Originally in the demonstration, there was only one box constructed but i felt i could do more with two x-form spans and combine them in a way that enhances the shape.  UNSW - Paper and Card Modelling Techniques  Evaluation: This model was constructed following the UNSW video provided about paper and card modelling techniques. This technique involves sc...
