Week 5 - Model Making

Model Making Activities

1:100 Room Model

Paper Folding Techniques

Masu Box

Evaluation: I personally really enjoyed making this shape. The demonstration was relatively easy to understand and the shape looks quite complex although it was simple to construct.

V-Pleats

Evaluation: At first glance and given how simple the folds were for this model - I wasn't expecting the end result to turn out this aesthetic. I also enjoyed learning what a 'mountain' and 'valley' fold were.

X-Form Spans

Evaluation: This shape was a lot of fun to play and experiment with. Originally in the demonstration, there was only one box constructed but i felt i could do more with two x-form spans and combine them in a way that enhances the shape.

UNSW - Paper and Card Modelling Techniques

Evaluation: This model was constructed following the UNSW video provided about paper and card modelling techniques. This technique involves scoring paper (and not cutting all the way through), but deep enough to make and indentation for a fold. Although it was easy to make, the shape didn't turn out as nicely as i wanted it to and i also found it difficult to keep my cuts even between each other. However, it did create an interesting form.

Crumpling

Evaluation: At first, I was in disbelief I could make an interesting form/shape by simply crumpling paper and adding folds to it. However, this demonstration proved me wrong as I was able to create a really interesting shell-like shape that I liked.

All Paper Models

Evaluation: Of all the paper models, the mansu box was probably my favourite as the form was eye catching and fun to make.
